Firefox 3.5 RC3 (Release Candidate)

Firefox versiunea 3.5 RC3 (versiune potenţial finală) a apărut.
Ce e de interes imediat pentru utilizator este butonul de New Tab din dreapta fiecărei file (tab) deschise. Alte inovaţii sunt geolocation (site-urile – cum sunt cele ce oferă hărţi – îţi pot detecta locaţia cu mai mare precizie, trebuie să acorzi permisiune ca un site să-ţi detecteze locaţia), ştie să includă fonturi custom în pagini (linkul arată corect doar în Firefox 3.5; fonturile sunt descărcate de browser), poti face shortcut la o pagină pe desktop trăgând tabul cu adresa pe desktop, poţi naviga privat (fără să se reţină istoricul accesărilor, cookie-urile, plus alte informaţii specifice) din Tools -> Strart private browsing, suportă tagurile html <video> şi <audio> şi bineînţeles că e mai rapid ca precedenta versiune.
Versiunea 3.5 finală va fi lansată foarte curând a fost lansată.
Cum să setezi Firefox ca şi navigator implicit de internet?

Folosind Apple Safari!
Am păţit deja de trei ori. Reinstalez sistemul de operare după care descarc Firefox (în limba română, să învăţ jargonul de internet în limba mea), îl instalez, şi îl setez ca navigator implicit de internet. Toate bune, linkurile pornesc în general cu Firefox, dar cele din status-urile contactelor din Yahoo Messenger pornesc în Internet Explorer.
Nu mai ţin minte cum am descoperit că dacă setez cu Apple Safari browser-ul implicit (Safari detectează navigatoarele de internet instalate şi te lasă să alegi care să fie impilic. Câtă curtoazie!) aşa rămâne, şi chiar şi Yahoo Messenger ascultă şi porneste linkurile unde trebuie (dat vezi mai jos).
Aşa că la fiecare reinstare de sistem sau de Firefox descarc şi Safari (şi Chrome, şi Opera, la cât timp stau lucrez pe net am nevoie de cinci navigatoare) şi setez Firefox ca navigator implicit.
Cum să setezi Firefox navigator implicit din Firefox: Unelte -> Opţiuni -> Avansat -> General -> Opţiunile implicite ale sistemului -> Verifică …
Cum să setezi Firefox navigator implicit din Safari: Preferences -> General -> Default web browser -> Mozilla Firefox.
Bun, unii cititori se întreabă de ce ar face din Firefox browser-ul implicit. Pentru că este cel mai bun!
Update: Folosesc de test Windows 7 și aici Yahoo Messenger se încăpățânează să îmi deschidă linkurile cu Internet Explorer. Problema se rezolvă așa: deschide meniul Messenger -> Preferences -> General -> debifează Open links in new browser window -> Ok (de aici).
Firefox 3 crash

Introduction
Firefox 3 was released in June 17 and it was a record breaking hit for Mozilla team. I installed it in the same day, curious to see the announced performance gains, especially for JavaScript, the “awesome” address bar, and also the new look.
First I installed it at work, then, in the evening, at home. To my dissapointment, while my work colleagues experienced absolutely no problems using the new shiny browser release, I had the frustration of having the browser restarted every now and then, even if it was not the active window! At home there was absolutely no problem with it, though.
So at work I unhappily reversed to Firefox 2. Until a few days ago, when I got an idea lighting in my head. Thinking that it is not a problem related to Firefox 3 itself (I am sure it has been tested thoroughly), it must have been something wrong to the local installation. If you search the web for Firefox 3 crash you will see quite a number of results.
My solution
Firefox 3 installation was done on top of the previous Firefox 2 installation that I was using. Afterwards, trying to get rid of the crashes I uninstalled first Firefox 2 then installed Firefox 3. Still the same ugly frequent crashes.
Then, as any ideea comes, mine hit me instantly: why not try delete the Firefox custom user data? So I did just that. First I uninstalled Firefox, then I I wiped out two folders: C:\Documents and Settings\$YOUR_USER_NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox and C:\Documents and Settings\$YOUR_USER_NAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox. (replace $YOUR_USER_NAME with your login user name).
Then I reinstalled Firefox 3, and voila, no more crashes.
If you experienced frequent Firefox 3 crahes, there might have been some incompatiblities between what version 2 saved in Local Settings and Application Data and version 3, which tried to read the obsolete data.
While surely this is not the universal solution, I hope some will find it useful.
